How to backup a BlackBerry Pushcast Software environment

When backing up a BlackBerry® Pushcast™ Software environment, it is recommended to backup the following objects and components:

  1. Website SSL certificate
  2. Installation directory for BlackBerry Pushcast Software
  3. Microsoft® IIS Website configuration
  4. SQL® database

Select one of the following series of steps below as a guide depending on the Chalk or BlackBerry Pushcast environment:

Environment 1: Chalk Pushcast Software 5.6 - Windows® Server 2003, IIS 6, Microsoft SQL Server 2005
Environment 2: BlackBerry Pushcast Software 5.7 - Windows Server 2003, IIS 6, Microsoft SQL Server 2005
Environment 3: BlackBerry Pushcast Software 5.7 - Windows Server 2008, IIS 7, Microsoft SQL Server 2008


Environment 1: Chalk Pushcast Software 5.6 - Windows Server 2003, IIS 6, Microsoft SQL Server 2005

1) Backup website SSL certificate

a. Go to Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager

b. Expand Web Sites, right click the web site used for Chalk Pushcast Software and select Properties

c. Select the Directory Security tab and then click the ‘Server Certificate…’ button

d. Click Next

e. Select Export the current certificate to a .pfx file

f. Click Next

g. Choose a path for the exported certificate and then click Next

h. Choose a password and then click Next

i. Click Next and then Finish

2) Backup Chalk Pushcast Software installation directory (Root directory of Pushcast software installation)

a. Backup all of the contents of this directory

3) Export the IIS website(s) to a file

a. Go to Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools> Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager

b. Expand Web Sites, right click the web site used for Chalk Pushcast Software and select All Tasks > Save Configuration to a File…

c. Name and choose a location to save the file

d. Click Ok

4) Export the IIS application pools to a file

a. Go to Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager

b. Right click Application Pools and select All Tasks > Save Configuration to a File...

c. Name and choose a location to save the file

d. Click Ok

5) Backup main SQL database (largest of three databases, default name is CPC_CPS)

a. Go to Start > All Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2005 > SQL Server Management Studio

b. Verify the correct database engine is selected and then click Connect

c. Expand Databases

d. Right click the Pushcast Console database and select Tasks > Back Up…

e. Verify the file destination is correct and the Backup type is set to Full

f. Click OK

Environment 2: BlackBerry Pushcast Software 5.7 - Windows Server 2003, IIS 6, Microsoft SQL Server 2005

1) Backup website SSL certificate

a. Go to Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager

b. Expand Web Sites, right click the web site used for Chalk Pushcast Software and select Properties

c. Select the Directory Security tab and then click the ‘Server Certificate…’ button

d. Click Next

e. Select Export the current certificate to a .pfx file

f. Click Next

g. Choose a path for the exported certificate and then click Next

h. Choose a password and then click Next

i. Click Next and then Finish

2) Backup BlackBerry Pushcast Software installation directory (Root directory of Pushcast software installation)

a. Backup all of the contents of this directory

3) Export the IIS website(s) to a file

a. Go to Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools> Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager

b. Expand Web Sites, right click the web site used for Chalk Pushcast Software and select All Tasks > Save Configuration to a File…

c. Name and choose a location to save the file

d. Click Ok

4) Export the IIS application pools to a file

a. Go to Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager

b. Right click Application Pools and select All Tasks > Save Configuration to a File...

c. Name and choose a location to save the file

d. Click Ok

5) Backup main SQL database (largest of three databases, default name is BPC_BPS)

a. Go to Start > All Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2005 > SQL Server Management Studio

b. Verify the correct database engine is selected and then click Connect

c. Expand Databases

d. Right click the Pushcast Console database and select Tasks > Back Up…

e. Verify the file destination is correct and the Backup type is set to Full

f. Click OK

Environment 3: BlackBerry Pushcast Software 5.7 - Windows Server 2008, IIS 7, Microsoft SQL Server 2008

1) Backup website SSL certificate

a. Go to Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager

b. Select the IIS Server listed in the left pane

c. Double click the Server Certificates icon listed under the IIS section of the middle pane

d. Right click your web servers SSL certificate and select Export…

e. Name and choose a location to save the file

f. Enter and confirm a password

g. Click Ok

2) Backup BlackBerry Puschast Software installation directory (Root directory of Pushcast software installation)

a. Backup all of the contents of this directory

3) Export the IIS configuration to a file

a. Go to Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager

b. Select the IIS Server listed in the left pane

c. Double click the Shared Configuration icon listed under the Management section of the middle pane

d. On the right pane, click Export Configuration…

e. Name and choose a location to save the file

f. Enter and confirm a password

g. Click Ok

4) Backup main SQL database (largest of three databases, default name is BPC_BPS)

a. Go to Start > All Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2008 > SQL Server Management Studio

b. Verify the correct database engine is selected and then click Connect

c. Expand Databases

d. Right click the Pushcast Console database and select Tasks > Back Up…

e. Verify the file destination is correct and the Backup Type is set to Full

f. Click Ok
