How to bulk import BlackBerry Pushcast Software users

The user import tool uses an Microsoft® Excel® macro to leverage BlackBerry® Pushcast™ APIs to import users into the BlackBerry Pushcast Software.  This document’s goal is to describe how to configure the tool, prepare the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet file for import, and run the tool.

Configuring the Import Tool

1)  Select the Configuration Information tab.

2)  The WS Base URL field must include the HTTPS URL to the Pushcast server and channel name. 

3)   In the Username and Password fields, enter the credentials for an account that has the Integration API role, the Adminitrator role and can manage all users and groups within the BlackBerry Pushcast Console.

 

Creating Groups for User accounts

Note: This information is optional.  All users will be imported to the Everyone Group.  If you wish users to be members of other groups, here is where you create the groups.

1)  Select the Groups for User Accounts tab.

2)  In the GROUPID field, enter a unique identifier for the group.  (i.e.  For the Information Technology group, you may want to enter IT)

3)  In the GROUPNAME field, enter the name of the group as you would like it to appear in the Console.  (i.e. Information Technology)

4)  In the GROUP DESCRIPTION field, enter a description for the group.

 

Prepare the User List

1)  Select the User Account Information tab.

2)  Populate the fields with your user's information.  The table below outlines which values are required or optional, and also lists the possible values.

FIRST NAME

[Mandatory] First name of user.

LAST NAME

[Mandatory] Last name of user.

E-MAIL ADDRESS

[Mandatory] Email address of user.

Users primary SMTP address

USERNAME

[Mandatory] User name of user.

Username - used to log into BlackBerry Pushcast Console

PASSWORD

[Mandatory] Password of user.

Users initial password

STATUS

[Optional] Status of the user, either "ACTIVE" or "INACTIVE".  If no status field or header is specified, or the field specified is not valid, a default value of "ACTIVE" will be used.

GROUPID

[Optional] A variable number of columns may be specified.  Each value represents a GROUPID that this user will be a member of.

GROUPID for the first role, GROUPID for he second role, etc …

ROLEID

[Optional] A variable number of columns may be specified.  Each value represents a ROLEID that this user will have privileges to.

ROLEID for the first Role, ROLEID for the second role, etc …  See the list below for possilble role id's

MANAGES ALL GROUPS

[Optional] User can manage all groups

Boolean:(Y/True or N/False)

MANAGER OF GROUPID

[Optional] User can manage a specific Group

 The following RoleID's are available by default:

 

     1.     SystemRole.ContentRecipient
2.     SystemRole.Administrator
3.     SystemRole.Manager

5.     SystemRole.PowerpointAuthorAdvanced
6.     SystemRole.AppworldAuthor
7.     SystemRole.AppworldAuthorAdvanced
8.     SystemRole.IntegrationApi

 

Importing Users/Groups

1)  For Microsoft Excel 2007 or later, enable the Developer Tab.  Excel Options > Popular > Show Developer tab in the Ribbon.

2)  Make sure macros are enabled.  Excel Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Macro Settings > Enable all macros.

3)  Verify URL and credentials are correct on the Configuration Information tab.

4)  To create groups go to the Groups for User Accounts tab, and run the ImportGroups macro (Alt+F8)

5)  To create users to the User Account Information tab, and run the ImportUsers macro (Alt+F8)
