Note: Debug info logging cannot be turned on if content protection is enabled on the BlackBerry® smartphone prior to BlackBerry 6; see KB11963 to ensure that content protection is disabled on the BlackBerry smartphone before completing these steps.

Enable debug logs using the BlackBerry Desktop Software 6.1 to 7.1

  1. Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer and launch the BlackBerry Desktop Software
  2. Click the ? located in the upper right corner of the screen
  3. Select Support Resources
  4. Select Support Tools
  5. Click Debug under Change Log Level

Enable debug logs on a BlackBerry smartphone that has either a QWERTY keyboard or a SureType® keyboard

  1. From the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, hold the Alt key and then type lglg
  2. If the Event Log screen displays Event Log (Debug Info), go to step 3. Otherwise, set the Event Log screen to display the debug information by completing the following steps:
    1. Press the Menu key and click Options
    2. Click the Min log level drop-down list and select Debug Info
    3. Press the Menu key and then click Save
  3. On the Event Log screen, press the Menu key and select Clear Log
  4. Confirm the deletion by clicking Delete in the dialog box

Enable debug logs on a BlackBerry® Torch™ without QWERTY keyboard:

  1. From the Home screen of the BlackBerry® Torch™ 9860/9850 and BlackBerry® Curve™ 9380 smartphone, go to Universal Search
  2. Rotate the device to the landscape position to ensure the full keyboard is displayed
  3. Press the number key follow by "/"/ keys
  4. If the Event Log screen displays Event Log (Debug Info), go to step 5. Otherwise, set the Event Log screen to display the debug information by completing the following steps:
    1. Press the Menu key and click Options
    2. Click the Min log level drop-down list and select Debug Info
    3. Press the Menu key and then click Save
  5. On the Event Log screen, press the Menu key and select Clear Log
  6. Confirm the deletion by clicking Delete in the dialog box

Enable debug logs on a BlackBerry® Storm™ 9500 smartphone in portrait view:

  1. From the Home screen of the BlackBerry® Storm™ 9500 smartphone, go to Options, then to Screen/Keyboard
  2. In the Screen/Keyboard options menu, set the Portrait View Keyboard option to SureType and then Save the settings
  3. From the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, press the convenience key to display the keyboard in portrait view
  4. Hold the number key to lock the number keyboard. The 123 icon appears at the top right of the screen, and a small lock appears on the number key
  5. Press the ,5,5 keys
  6. If the Event Log screen displays Event Log (Debug Info), go to step 7. Otherwise, set the Event Log screen to display the debug information by completing the following steps:
    1. Press the Menu key and click Options
    2. Click the Min log level drop-down list and select Debug Info
    3. Press the Menu key and then click Save
  7. On the Event Log screen, press the Menu key and select Clear Log
  8. Confirm the deletion by clicking Delete in the dialog box

Enable debug logs on a BlackBerry Storm 9550 smartphone in portrait view:

Note: For BlackBerry Storm Series smartphones running BlackBerry® Device Software 5.0, logging is only accessible from the portrait view Home screen, and the keyboard must be set to the SureType input method for the command to work. A convenience key needs to be set to the virtual keyboard for the keyboard to display in portrait view. For more information, see KB19960 .

  1. From the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, press the convenience key to display the keyboard in portrait view
  2. Press the ,5,5 keys
  3. If the Event Log screen displays Event Log (Debug Info), go to step 4. Otherwise, set the Event Log screen to display the debug information by completing the following steps:
    1. Press the Menu key and click Options
    2. Click the Min log level drop-down list and select Debug Info
    3. Press the Menu key and then click Save
  4. On the Event Log screen, press the Menu key and select Clear Log
  5. Confirm the deletion by clicking Delete in the dialog box

Enable debug logs on a BlackBerry Storm 9500 smartphone in landscape view:

  1. From the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, press the Menu key and click Show Keyboard
  2. Hold the number key to lock the number keyboard. The 123 icon appears at the top right of the screen, and a small lock appears on the number key
  3. Press the "/"/ keys
  4. If the Event Log screen displays Event Log (Debug Info), go to step 5. Otherwise, set the Event Log screen to display the debug information by completing the following steps:
    1. Press the Menu key and click Options
    2. Click the Min log level drop-down list and select Debug Info
    3. Press the Menu key and then click Save
  5. On the Event Log screen, press the Menu key and select Clear Log
  6. Confirm the deletion by clicking Delete in the dialog box

Enable debug logs on a BlackBerry® Pearl™ 9105 smartphone (14-key):

Note: The BlackBerry® Pearl™ 9105 smartphone does not have an Alt key. The Alt function is activated using the Volume Up or Volume Down keys from the Home screen.

  1. To activate Alt, press the right side Volume keys in the following sequence: up, down, up, down, up

    Note: the Alt icon should display in the top left corner of the screen

  2. Type 55545554
  3. If the Event Log screen displays Event Log (Debug Info), go to step 4. Otherwise, set the Event Log screen to display the debug information by completing the following steps:
    1. Press the Menu key and click Options
    2. Click the Min log level drop-down list and select Debug Info
    3. Press the Menu key and then click Save
  4. On the Event Log screen, press the Menu key and select Clear Log
  5. Confirm the deletion by clicking Delete in the dialog box

Note: Debug Info settings may not be turned on even after disabling content protection. It can be enabled by connecting the USB cable to the workstation and performing a battery reset on the BlackBerry smartphone.
