"Error 0x8004fd28" displays during calendar synchronization using BlackBerry Desktop Manager

When attempting to synchronize calendar entries between the computer and the BlackBerry® smartphone, the following error message appears on the BlackBerry® Desktop Manager:

Cause 1

The Intellisync® folder is corrupted.

Resolution 1a

To reset the configuration of the synchronization, complete the following steps:

  1. Open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
  2. Click Synchronize.
  3. Click the Configuration tab. (For BlackBerry Desktop Manager version 4.5 to 5.0.1, click the Synchronization option under the Configure heading).
  4. Click Reset Configuration.
  5. Click Yes.

Resolution 1b

To delete the Intellisync folder, complete the following steps:

  1. Close the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
  2. On the computer, navigate to the appropriate folder listed below:
    • If you are using Microsoft Windows® XP, go to C:\Documents and Settings\ <User Folder > \Application Data\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Intellisync.
    • If you are using Microsoft Windows Vista™, go to C:\Users \<User Name> \AppData \Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\ Intellisync.

 Note: If you are unable to view the folder, refer to the Additional Information section below for instruction on how to view hidden files.

  1. Delete the Intellisync folder.
  2. Open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.

    Note:
    If the BlackBerry Desktop Manager attempts to synchronize at this stage, synchronization will fail.
  3. Configure the BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization by completing the following steps:
    1. Click Synchronize.
    2. Click Configuration.
    3. Click Synchronization.
  4. Synchronize the calendar entries.

 


Cause 2

There are one or more corrupt calendar entries on the BlackBerry smartphone calendar.

Resolution 2

  1. Back up the calendar database on the BlackBerry smartphone.
  2. Clear the calendar database on the BlackBerry smartphone.

    Note: For instructions on how to clear an individual database on the BlackBerry smartphone, see KB10167.

To view hidden files and folders, complete the following steps:
  1. Open the Control Panel, and double-click Folder Options.
  2. Click the View tab.
  3. Click Show hidden files and folders, and click OK.
