How to enable HTTP Authentication for the Mobile Data Service Connection Service

When the BlackBerry smartphone user attempts to browse to an internal or intranet site, enabling HTTP authentication will allow prompting for users to enter their credentials to log on to content servers.

BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.1 SP5 to SP7

  1. In BlackBerry Manager, select <BlackBerry_Enterprise_Server_name>_MDS-CS_1.
  2. Click Edit Properties.
  3. In the Properties window, click HTTP.
  4. Set Support HTTP Authentication to True, then click OK.
  5. Set Support HTTP Cookie Storage to True, then click OK.
  6. Edit the MDSlogin.conf file > Replace COMPANY.COM with your domain name all in UPPERCASE (lower case will not work)
  7. Restart the BlackBerry MDS Connection Service.

BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0

  1. In BlackBerry Administration Service console expand BlackBerry Solution topology > BlackBerry Domain > Component view.
  2. Click MDS Connection Service.
  3. Click on the HTTP tab.
  4. Click Edit Component.
  5. Set Authentication support enabled to Yes.
  6. Set Cookie support enabled to Yes (If required in the environment).
  7. Click Save all.
  8. Edit the MDSlogin.conf file > Replace COMPANY.COM with the domain name all in UPPERCASE (lower case will not work).
  9. Restart the BlackBerry MDS Connection Service.
