How to remove the encoding options when composing a new email message

When composing a new email message, you may see an option to change the encoding of the email message. These encoding options are visible if the S/MIME Support Package is installed on the BlackBerry® smartphone.

To remove the S/MIME Support Package follow the steps below:

On a BlackBerry smartphone running BlackBerry Device Software 4.5 to 4.7, proceed with the following steps:

  1. From the home screen, select Options.
  2. In the Options menu, go to Advanced Options > Applications.
  3. Scroll down to BlackBerry S/MIME Support Package.
  4. Launch the Menu and select Delete.
  5. Confirm deletion by clicking Delete.

A reset of the BlackBerry smartphone may be required to complete the removal.

On a BlackBerry smartphone running BlackBerry Device Software 5.0, proceed with the following steps:

  1. From the home screen, click Options and then select Applications.
  2. In the Applications screen, click on the drop down menu and select Add-on.
  3. Scroll down to the BlackBerry S/MIME support package.
  4. Launch the Menu and select Delete.
  5. Confirm deletion by clicking Delete.

A reset of the BlackBerry smartphone may be required to complete the removal.

On a BlackBerry smartphone running BlackBerry Device Software 6.0 to 7.1, proceed with the following steps:

  1. From the home screen, select Options.
  2. In the Options menu, go to Device > Application Management.
  3. Scroll down to BlackBerry S/MIME Support Package.
  4. Launch the Menu and select Delete.
  5. Confirm deletion by clicking Delete.

A reset of the BlackBerry smartphone may be required to complete the removal.

Note: The above steps apply to S/MIME Support Packages installed using BlackBerry Desktop Manager as well as deployed using a Software Configuration through the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. However if the disposition of the application is set to required the above method does not apply. Additionally when a user tries to remove the application a message similar to Unable to remove BlackBerry S/MIME Support Package. It is required by IT policy application control will appear.
