BlackBerry News App prompts to upgrade your service to a plan that includes browsing to discover RSS content

Article ID: KB27658

Type: Support Content

Last Modified: 12-15-2011

Product(s) Affected:

  • BlackBerry News Feeds
  • BlackBerry® News Feeds

After installing BlackBerry® News Feeds app and running it, the following message is displayed:

Upgrade your service to a plan that includes browsing to discover RSS content.  Contact your wireless service provider or administrator for more information.

This can be caused by one or more of the following:

  • The BlackBerry smartphone service plan does not have any IPPP service books (neither BlackBerry Internet Service nor BlackBerry® Enterprise Server browsing services enabled)
  • IT policy from a BlackBerry Enterprise server may disable both BIS and BES browsing services
  • The BlackBerry smartphone does not contain either BIS or BES browsing service books

Confirm that the BlackBerry Service plan has either BIS or BES Browsing enabled.

Ensure there are no IT policies on restricting the BlackBerry Smartphone from utilizing at least one of these Browsing services

Finally check that either BIS or BES browsing service books exist on the BlackBerry Smartphone.
