BlackBerry Desktop Software is unable to detect the BlackBerry smartphone on Windows Vista or Windows 7 when user account control is enabled.

Disable User Account Control by completing one of the following tasks:

For Windows Vista, complete the following steps:

  1. From the Start menu, click Control Panel.
  2. Click User Accounts.
  3. In the User Accounts window, click User Accounts.
  4. In the User Accounts tasks window, click Turn User Account Control on or off.
  5. If the UAC is currently configured in Admin Approval Mode, the User Account Control message appears. Click Continue.
  6. Clear the Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer check box, and then click OK.
  7. Restart the computer.

For Windows 7, complete the following steps:

  1. From the Start menu, click Control Panel.
  2. Click User Accounts and Family Safety.
  3. Click User Accounts.
  4. Click Change User Account Control Settings.
  5. Move the slider to the bottom.
  6. Restart the computer.

For Windows 8, complete the following steps:

  1. Access the Desktop tile from the Windows 8 screen.
  2. Slide or swipe to the bottom right corner to access the  Charms Bar.
  3. Select the Settings icon.
  4. Click on Control Panel.
  5. Click User Accounts and Family Safety.
  6. Click User Accounts.
  7. Click Change User Account Control Settings.
  8. Move the slider to the bottom.
  9. Restart the computer.
