The BlackBerry smartphone running BlackBerry Device Software 4.0 to 5.0 is unable to browse the internet while connected to a Wi-Fi network.  A loading page is displayed, but the Browser is unable to load the requested web page.
CollapseCause
The BlackBerry smartphone running BlackBerry Device Software 4.0 to 5.0 is using the incorrect Browser to load the requested web page.
CollapseResolution

On the BlackBerry smartphone running BlackBerry Device Software 4.0 to 5.0, change the Default Browser to Wi-Fi/Hotspot Browser in two locations.

Note: BlackBerry smartphones running BlackBerry 6 and 7 do not have the option to change the Default Browser, the browser is automatically selected based on the type of connection being used.

Step 1

  1. Open the Browser.
  2. Press the Menu key, then click Options General Properties.
  3. Under the Default Browser select Wi-Fi/Hotspot Browser.
  4. Press the Menu key and select Save.

Step 2

  1. From the home screen select Options Advanced Options Browser.
  2. Under Default Browser Configuration choose Wi-Fi/Hotspot Browser.
  3. Press the Menu key and select Save.
