Desktop is unable to communicate with a BlackBerry 10 device when connected via USB with an active VPN connection

When the desktop computer is connected to a VPN the desktop is unable to communicate with the BlackBerry 10 device. This includes access to the mapped network shares and BlackBerry Link connectivity.

The BlackBerry 10 smartphone uses a local area network connection for communication.  Some VPN clients will restrict local area network connections from being available once the VPN client has successfully logged in.

Within the VPN client ensure that local area network access is enabled. Contact the system administrator or VPN provider for instructions. Prior to starting the VPN client ensure the BlackBerry 10 smartphone is connected.
