This article applies to BlackBerry® Desktop Software 4.5 to 6.1.

During a wired synchronization of the organizer data on the BlackBerry® smartphone with the data on the computer, the following error messages might appear:

Error encounter. Error code – 0x80040fb3. Check documentation

The preceding error messages are followed by:

Unable to complete Synchronization

The Unable to complete Synchronization error message is displayed after the synchronization process appears to have completed.

Note: Synchronization may go through without any specific error message, but no entries will show up on the BlackBerry smartphone. 

 


Complete the following steps in order until resolution is obtained:

Note : Upgrade to the most recent version of BlackBerry Desktop software to resolve these issues. If using BlackBerry Desktop Software 6.1 or earlier please see the following:

 

Step 1 - One or more of the contacts in the Microsoft Outlook contact list might contain East Asian characters.

To resolve the error, make sure that the following versions of software are present or updated on the computer:

  • BlackBerry® Desktop Software 6.1.0 B38 or later
  • BlackBerry® Device Software 4.6.0.244 or later


Step 2 - Known issue with blank email address fields

Within the contact application data, when attempting to synchronize a contact where there is a blank email address before a completed email address. For example, if there is a contact that has e-mail 2 populated but not e-mail, this error may occur. If e-mail and e-mail 3 populated, but not e-mail 2 this error may occur.

Step 3 - One or more of the contacts contain a contact picture that cannot be processed properly.

Make sure that the image files associated with the contacts are in JPG format.

  1. Make sure that the image files associated with the contacts are sized to 90 pixel by 90 pixel. Images may be re-sized prior to adding the contact.


Step 4 - Known sync errors

This is a previously reported issue that is being investigated by our development team. No resolution time frame is currently available. (Recommend upgrade to latest BlackBerry Desktop Software version)

Workaround for cause 4

Remove the field mapping for Attendees field.

  1. Choose Organizer

  2. Click Configure Settings

  3. Highlight Calendar

  4. Select Advanced

  5. Select Map Fields

  6. Click the arrows next to Attendees and verify it is deselected

Note: If the Configuration settings are reset, these steps must be applied again.
