Support for Resource Forest is one of the new features in BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0 SP1.

Due to security concerns, some customers choose to isolate their Windows® user accounts from their Microsoft® Exchange Servers® by deploying them in separate Active Directory Forests. In this scenario, BlackBerry smartphone user accounts are created in an Account Forest and Microsoft Exchange Server is deployed to separate Resource Forest.

Prior to BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0 SP1, the user logs into the BlackBerry Administration Service using their Active Directory account which has no email information attached to it. BlackBerry Administration Service is unaware of the other forest (Resource Forest containing the Microsoft Exchange Server, and mailboxes) and is therefore not able to authenticate BlackBerry enabled Micosoft Exchange Server users on their first login attempt.

With BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0 SP1, this issue have been resolved.
