When sending BBM messages to a contact who is out of coverage, the messages will be pended, but will eventually expire (i.e. be deleted from the system and not delivered).

Depending on the message type, the expiry interval will be as follows:

Message sent to a single contact: 3 days

Messages sent to a group: 1 day

File Transfer: 1 hour

Avatar changes: Approximately every 60 minutes the BlackBerry smartphone will check if BBM contacts have changed their avatar icon. If the smartphone has gone out of coverage, when it comes back into coverage it should receive updated user avatars within an hour. If a contact's profile is viewed or a chat is initiated with a specific contact, their avatar will be updated at that moment.
