CollapseEnvironment
  • BlackBerry® Desktop Software 2.1 (Mac OS)
  • MicroSD media card
CollapseOverview
An error message, This BlackBerry device requires write permissions on your media card to sync your media files, is displayed after clicking on Sync on the BlackBerry® Desktop software, when attempting to synchronize media between the Computer and the BlackBerry® smartphone.
CollapseCause
The media card hasn't been specifically formatted on the BlackBerry smartphone.
CollapseResolution
Format the media card on the BlackBerry smartphone by following these steps:

For BlackBerry Device software 6.0:
  1. Go into the Options menu on the  BlackBerry smartphone
  2. Go into Device
  3. Go into Storage
  4. Click on the BlackBerry menu key and select the option to Format

CollapseAdditional Information
The functionality of transferring files back and forth between the media card and the computer, using mass storage mode, may still be present.

An alternate way of telling if the media card is not formatted properly is by looking at the name of the media card device that shows up on the desktop of the computer when using mass storage mode. An improperly formatted card might be listed as no name instead of BlackBerry, for example.
